The galaxy is at war.
Although the Rebel Alliance has won a few battles against the Empire, hope is fading. The Empire is about to unveil the greatest weapon the galaxy has ever seen–the Death Star. The Rebels’ only chance to defeat it now lies in the unlikely hands of a princess, a scoundrel, and a farm boy…
Let me just preface this review by saying that I have never seen the full original Star Wars trilogy. I know right? That being said, I finally watched A New Hope a couple weeks ago and then immediately picked this up because I fell straight into the lore and story of Star Wars. And Alexandra Bracken did such a good job with this novel.
It was like reading the movie; something I always want to do when I watch a really great movie and boy did she deliver. She kept it true to the movie and plot line whilst incorporating dialogue from the characters and the little illustrations here and there were just fantastic!
I think my favorite part was how each section was from the three main characters perspectives; Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker, respectively. Princess Leia’s dialogue pulled me in from the first page and I was almost wishing the whole book had been from her perspective (because let’s face it, she’s awesome), but I also really enjoyed reading from the boys’ points of view as well.
It’s too bad the rest in this little illustrated series aren’t by Alexandra Bracken as well because I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style, but I’m really excited to dive into the next one’s (as soon as I see the rest of the movies) next!
Have you read this one? What did you think? Did it get you excited for the new Star Wars movie coming out in December? Let me know in the comments below!
And may the force be with you.
