In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass–and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.
(Not sure why I just noticed this, but the title and the author’s name make a rhyme when you say them all together. Hehe book humor)
Anyways! Not only is this like my all-time favorite cover, but it’s definitely my all-time favorite fantasy series (okay maybe tied with first since nothing beats Harry Potter). I loved every second of this novel and could not put this down. I was constantly stopping though to look up fanart people had done for the series (whilst trying to avoid spoilers along the way).
The whole premise and world building is just so enthralling and we really see the characters undergo transformations themselves which I always look forward to in a novel. I love Chaol and wish he had his own series so I could read more about him, though Celeana is a wonderful character and a total kick-ass female!
I cannot wait to start the second one and look forward to purchasing the entire series one day!
