In the near future, the federal government creates a committee to rid society of books it deems unsuitable. The libraries vow to protect their collections, and with the help of local governments, form a military group to defend themselves–the Library Forces!

Iku Kasahara has dreamed of joining the Library Defense Force ever since one of its soldiers stepped in to protect her favorite book from being confiscated in a bookstore when she was younger. But now that she’s finally a recruit, she’s finding her dream job to be a bit of a nightmare. Especially since her hard-hearted drill instructor seems to have it in for her!

I picked this series up on a whim when I was at my local library (ironically) because it seemed interesting and like a light and fluffy read. And I’m so glad I picked up this series because it is so good!

Basically this story takes place in the near future and there are different teams assembled to defend books and libraries from censorship. Overall, a very bad ass premise, especially considering our main character is a kick ass girl who, despite her faults and triumphs, seems so life-like and real.

I really love how this series mixes different components of romance and love in a typical Shojo manga fashion in with more serious situations of war and espionage within the government. Everything is illustrated really beautifully too and the dialogue is simply hilarious.

I cannot wait for the next few in the series to come out! This series, for me at least, is definitely up there in the sort of Fruits Basket quality and is definitely worth checking out for long time manga fans or first-timers.

  1. I rarely read mangas but I’m attracted to their artwork. This one sounds very interesting. I like the idea that it’s about books. My little sister loves reading mangas so I’ll let her know about this series. Perhaps I’ll read them too 🙂

    1. I HIGHLY recommend this series! I have to admit the whole idea of protecting books also drew me in and now I can’t stop reading them! Definitely a good starter series 🙂

  2. […] One of my friends recommended this to me and I’m so glad he did because I blew through this series in about a day since it was so wonderful (there’s an anime too!). The set up in this manga is different than any other manga I’ve read before and this reads more like a newspaper comic. Definitely something to check out for first time manga readers since it’s easier to navigate than something like this. […]
