Based on the wildly popular blog “Rich Kids of Instagram,” a dishy and hilarious novel about the intersecting lives of the world’s most extravagant, unapologetically uber-rich teenagers.

The “Rich Kids of Instagram” are not your typical well-to-do brats. These “kids” drive Ferraris, fly to their weekend getaways in private jets, and post self-indulgent photos of themselves online as frequently—and as wantonly—as they blow wads of cash. Not to mention that they’re more involved in sex, drugs, and power plays than most people twice their age.

Drawing from the ten most frequent contributors to the popular blog of the same name—which receives an average of 850,000 unique visitors a month and has been featured on 20/20, The New York TimesThe Washington PostForbesThe AtlanticBuzzfeedGawker, and others—Rich Kids of Instagram revolves around a core group of spoiled young people, from a Southern Belle poultry-empire heiress to a media mogul’s driven daughter and an old-money rifle heir with a Mayflower legacy; to a nouveau riche outsider who is thrust into the members-only universe of the .1%, with scandalous results.

In a world that is smaller, more connected, and more competitive than ever, where nothing is off limits, some kids are just trying to make a buck—or ten thousand. Prepare to be wowed by this saucy, compulsively readable book about the hilarious display of extravagant wealth and the teenagers who have fallen into it.

Hmmm. I was not impressed with this. So, I had a few problems with the novel and here’s why:

First off, I thought this was going to be a non-fiction piece that looked into super rich kids and they would somehow base it off the posts from the Rich Kids of Instagram blog. So, here I go into the novel thinking it’s not going to be fictional and I start to think all these characters are real. Upon Googling them of course I realize my huge mistake and realize it’s going to be a story of fiction. By this time I’m about 30% of the way done with the whole book.

Secondly, the story itself was so blah. I was not impressed at all with what the characters were doing. I was impressed at first with a couple of them (the switching viewpoints of like 6 people was super confusing too) and it would switch viewpoints at the worst times when key plot points were happening. I understand this may have been for suspense but for a good third of the novel I had no idea what the heck was going on.

Third, the only thing that I think saved this book from not being a two star rating for me was the epilogue. I thought it was the most cohesive and nicely written part of the whole book. It saved this book’s ass so to speak. If it hadn’t been for that I would have definitely have given this one or two stars. But seriously? Who wants to wait all the way until the end of the book to feel redeemed? Not to mention it dragged on and on.

When this does finally come out in July I would not recommend picking it up. It’s not worth your time.
